Description.
Located in Northern Israel, this mountainous area, which was captured by Israel during the Six Day War, in contrast to the dryness of the Dead Sea area, contains many waterfalls and springs. After a rainy winter you can encounter running streams along any hike in the area, of which the best-known is the Banias, which includes a national park and temple ruins.
· Mount Hermon is located at the northern tip of the Golan Heights. There is a ski lift which will take you to the top of the mountain for a panoramic view of the area, and depending on the amount of snow cover, there is skiing and sledding available in the winter months.
· Other attractions in the area include: the town of Quneitra, scene of heavy fighting in the Six Day War, which can be seen from outlook posts on the border with Syria. Nimrod Castle, built by the Moslims as a defense from the Crusaders, offers a beautiful view of the surrounding area. There are also several Druse villages in the area which are always willing to share hospitality with visitors
